Articles in the journal Disability and Society (formerly Disability, Handicap and Society) are of particular importance to this course.

Among other academic or /professional journals and periodicals which often feature relevant material include: Journal of Disability Policy Studies , Benefits , Community Care , Critical Social Policy , Special Children , Journal of Inclusive Education , Policy and Politics , and the Sociology of Health and Illness .

It is also invaluable to consult the disability press, such as the Greater Manchester Coalition of Disabled People's Coalition and Scope's Disability Now , as well as national newspapers and magazines; for instance, Wednesday's Guardian often features relevant pieces on social services and ‘community care’.

There are also a growing number of websites dealing with disability and related issues. In addition, some of the journals associated with this course, including Disability and Society are available via email and can be accessed off the University campus. For further information see Section 17 below.

The following list of references is by no means exhaustive. Disability Studies is a newly emergent and rapidly developing field and students are encouraged to explore widely for additional sources.
