Update on Relevant Aspects of Basic and Applied Therapeutics

A current textbook of clinical pharmacology

There are many and most students would benefit from looking through the University Library pharmacology section to choose a text that suits them. For example the current edition of the Oxford Textbook of Clinical Pharmacology and Drug Therapy .

GOLAN, E, TASHJIAN A H et al (2008). Principles of pharmacology : the pathophysiologic basis of drug therapy Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, 2nd edition

RANG, H P and DALE, M (2004) Pharmacology . 5 th edition.

WALKER, R and WHITTLESEA, C (2007) Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics . 4th edition.

Also

M J NEAL’S current edition of Medical Pharmacology at a Glance .

The ‘at a glance’ series of texts are excellent though the text is very abbreviated and relies on some prior knowledge. Others in the series include Medical Statistics at a Glance, which might also be useful to look at.

A textbook of pathophysiology

It is important that this aspect of therapeutics is understood if the disease process is to be managed effectively over time.

For example;

T J, NOVAK and HANDFORD, G. (1999) Essentials of Pathophysiology Concepts and Applications for Health Care Professionals . 2 nd edtion. McGraw-Hill.
