Reading List

There is no single book that covers the whole of the module. Some of the books in the list will be particularly useful in support of one or more sessions. Other books listed may contain sections useful for your coursework or for following up a particular theme of interest or importance to you. In addition you will also need to refer to the reading lists in your core modules for some of the assessments. You will find this reading list on the VLE for this module under “Module Information” This has dynamic links to the library catalogue enabling you to locate the books you need more easily and quickly.

The reading list is divided into four main areas:

1. Academic skills

2. Employability & careers

3. Personal development and succeeding at university

4. Texts suggested by the Careers Centre

If you cannot find a suitable book from the recommendations below, please contact module staff who will be happy to provide you with further references.

1. Books to help you develop your academic skills development.

There are numerous books available which are designed to help you with your skills development at University. Some of these are quite broad in scope and suitable for students on any programme of study. Some are designed specifically for students who are studying Business and Management. These books tend to cover academic reading/writing, using information, effective presentation, revision technique, time management, personal development etc. In contrast to these general “all-round” skills books there are others which are more specific and focused e.g. books just about academic writing, or on referencing, or personal development. You are not expected to read all of these books!
