Hughes, S. and Quinn, F. (2013). Quinn's Principles and Practice of Nurse Education Andover, Hampshire: Cengage Learning.
This gives a clear, concise, outline of educational theories in Part One: The psychological basis of teaching and learning. This provides a good overview of the fundamental educational psychology that underpins all education. Whilst written from the perspective of generic nurse training, it is comprehensive and can be readily applied to a range of contexts and a range of learners. As such it can be recommended for all involved in clinical education.
Mehay, R (2012). The essential handbook for GP training and education London: Radcliffe Publishing Ltd.
This text is a core programme text, written as a practical guide and resource for educators involved with the specialty training of GP Registrars. It also introduces some key relevant educational theories. As such it is invaluable to those taking on roles such as GP trainer or GP Training Programme Directors.
There are 10 copies available to borrow from the Health Sciences Library. We will also have digitised chapters available for each module. Reading lists for individual modules can be found under the module information folder. Here is the website that supports the core text where you can view some of the chapters and use a code to get 20% off the book by ordering through CRC Press. http://www.essentialgptrainingbook.com/
