This book and in particular, this chapter, are essential to your understanding of the module and to the wider BA Childhood Studies.

(2005) Constructing childhood : theory, policy and social practice ISBN: 0333948912 (pbk.) : £16.99; 0333948904, (chapter 1 and 2 Constructing children, childhood and the child and Key constructs: politics, policies, and process) pp. 1-28. This is a challenging chapter but please persevere with this and if necessary re-read it before making your notes. There will be unfamiliar words and concepts in this chapter but you will need to get to grips with these for this module and the BA Childhood studies. Try looking up any unfamiliar words, either in a dictionary or a sociological dictionary (can be found online).
