Introduction to Aviation Semester 1 Reading List

Part 1: A Brief History of Flight and the Development of Aviation

https://history.nasa.gov/SP-468/contents.htm (This is also available as a pdf download. Search for Loftin, Quest for Performance: The Evolution of the Modern Aircraft)

http://www.century-of-flight.freeola.com/

Parts 2-6

Kermode (Barnard and Philpott), 2012, Mechanics of Flight, 12th ed

Barnard and Philpott, 2009, Aircraft Flight, 5th ed.
(The two books above are very similar and either is suitable for complementary reading for this module)

Carpenter, 1996, Flightwise: Volume 1: Principles of Aircraft Flight.

Carpenter, 1997, Flightwise: Volume 2: Aircraft Stability and Control.
(The two books above are very clearly written and contain minimal mathematics. As a result however they are very 'wordy'. They use multiple pages to describe what other books cover in a single page.)

Anderson, 2016, Introduction to Flight, 8ed.
(Similar to Kermode and Barnard & Philpot but includes mathematics which is not required for this module)

FAA, 2016, Pilots Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge (Download from https://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aviation/phak/media/pilot_handbook.pdf)
