General reading

As well as undertaking the work you are prescribed, you should be keen to develop a broad knowledge of French culture and society, reading texts of all kinds, on art, history, music, gastronomy and so on. This will give you a fuller understanding of the subject you are studying, maximise your intellectual development, enhance your ability to place the set texts in a broader context, and help you identify new ideas and perspectives that will deepen your understanding and analytical capacities. Your tutors will always be pleased to see evidence that you have done this, and will reward evidence that you have digested, understood and used this reading appropriately.
Here are some suggestions for further reading that will get you started; once you begin to find your feet, you will benefit greatly from using your own initiative to find further reading on subjects that interest you.
