I recommend that you consult the following books to strengthen your understanding of the course, however you are not required to read any of them.

Sutherland:  Introduction to Metric and Topological Spaces 

This book covers the majority of the material excpet the final chapter on homotopy theory. A useful companion for those struggling with the early concepts in the course. 

Munkres: Topology: a first course

The relevant chapters are 2, 3, and 8. N.B. There is a second edition (entitled "Topology ISBN: 9781292036786 (e-book) ISBN: 9781292036786 (e-book)") to this book, the relevant chapters in the second edition are 2, 3 and 9. 

Armstrong: Basic Topology

This book is easier to read than Munkres and covers most of the relevant material -- however, some definitions differ slightly from the definitions in the course. Relevant chapters are 1, 2, 3 and 5. 

Weeks: The Shape of Space 

A wonderful read. Not necessarily relevent to the course but will serve your geometric intuition very well.
