There is unfortunately no single book which covers all the material given in this course. Suggested reading is given below - note that there is overlap between the books suggested, so it is not necessary to read them all.
For the population genetics components, a sound introduction is provided by the relevant chapters of:
Russell PJ (1998) Genetics . Benjamin/Cummings.
Ridley M (1996) Evolution . Blackwell.
Freeman S & Heron JC (2001) Evolutionary Analysis . Prentice-Hall.
Maynard Smith J (1998) Evolutionary Genetics. Oxford University Press.
Hartl DL (2000) A Primer In Population Genetics. Sinauer Assoc.
The following books provide a good introduction to the epidemiology of non-communicable diseases:
Barker DJP & Hall AJ (1991) Practical Epidemiology. Churchill Livingstone.
Coggon D, Rose G & Barker DJP (1997) Epidemiology for the Uninitiated. BMJ.
Hennekens CH & Buring JE (1987) Epidemiology in Medicine. Little, Brown & Co.
Moon G et al. (2000) Epidemiology: an Introduction . Open University Press.
There are a number of other introductory epidemiology textbooks in the Health Sciences Library which are also suitable.
