Unfortunately, however, in some cases, this simply has not been possible and, in order to make the bibliography as exhaustive as possible, I have not removed these items. If you find yourself unable to locate an item you want to consult via the library (in either text or electronic form), please contact Duncan Wheeler as he has his own personal copies of many of the items; please DO NOT contact him about items that can be found in the university by the usual means.  Students should read a selection of background reading, and should be in a position to discuss what they have read in preparation for each seminar; in the extended bibliography section, the slot to which each item pertains is indicated in brackets. There is less reading for weeks 1 and 2 then there is for subsequent sessions; students should take this opportunity to familiarise themselves with the set texts and a cross-section of the background reading. Texts in bold are particularly recommended.
